What is a Brazilian Blowout?

Thermal straightening perms, chemical relaxers, keratin treatments… and now, the Brazilian Blowout. What’s the deal?

Unlike all of the above, the Brazilian Blowout not only dramatically improves the texture of the hair, but also it improves the health and condition of the hair. The treatment creates a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle.

“The end result is smooth, healthy, frizz-free hair with radiant shine,” the website states.

Chemical relaxers and other permanent straightening techniques are damaging to the hair due to the harsh chemicals and heat used in the process. Because these methods completely rearrange the bonds in the hair structure, guests often experience “frizzy roots” when new growth comes in.

The Brazilian Blowout also doesn’t require any restrictions with the hair after the service is completed. The guest can freely wash and air dry the hair, work out, or put it up in a ponytail or clip without affecting the results.

Why is it $300?

The Brazilian Blowout is The Studio’s most expensive service because of the cost and amount of products required to perform the service, the amount of time it takes for one to two of our staff members to perform the service (usually 2-3 hours), and the products included with the service for the guest to take home for self-maintenance (Brazilian Blowout shampoo, conditioner, and styling product).

Results last up to 12 weeks.

Stylist Anna Bailey is certified in the Brazilian Blowout service and receives the service for herself regularly.

“My hair is really curly and thick, and the treatment reduces my blow-dry time and makes my curls more manageable and defined,” Bailey says. “It’s great for managing frizz and repairing the hair from damage.”

The Brazilian Blowout isn’t specifically designed to make hair completely straight, although it will in some cases. The service simply, but dramatically improves texture, health, and condition of the hair.

Why does it take so long? What is the process like?

The Brazilian Blowout service can take up to 3 hours depending on length, thickness, and texture of the hair. The process begins with an exfoliating shampoo to prepare the surface of the hair to absorb the solution. The guest returns to the chair where the solution is combed through thin sections of the hair all over the head. The stylist then blow dries the solution into the hair and follows with a thorough flat iron job. The hair is again divided into thin sections, and each has to be flat ironed from root to end up to 13 times. The process is time-consuming and can get a little toasty for the guest. After the hair is flat-ironed perfectly smooth, the hair must then be rinsed thoroughly and conditioned. If needed, the guest may sit with a deep-conditioning mask for about 10 minutes. The guest is then brought back to the chair where the hair is blow-dry styled one last time with Brazilian Blowout styling products, thus completing the entire service.
