Want to be ahead of the game? The first day of Spring is a month away, and that means it’s time to start thinking about your warm weather hair color. Just like the trees will gradually blossom their fresh lush green foliage, you too will enter the gradual transition into a fresh lighter hair color for the season.
Gradual being the key word.
If you’re the type to be blonde in summer and brunette in the winter, you should already know that both transitions, from light to dark and dark to light, can be multi-step processes. In some cases, the desired result can be achieved in one go, but more often than not, it is highly suggested that you take it in phases.
For example, lightening the hair all over from a dark color in just one trip to the salon can not only be a messy drawn-out process, but it is also extremely damaging to the hair. Two to three highlighting services is better for the health of your hair in the long run and will give a more manageable, maintainable and more natural result.
Of course, there are more options for spring/summer color than just going blonde. You also can ask your stylist to keep your color the same, but simply bump you up a level or two lighter. Or maybe just add in a few lighter pieces on top for a subtle, natural sunkissed look.
Redheads! Take your fall auburn red color to a brighter copper to spice things up in the sunshine.
Or get adventurous with a balayage/ombre/hair-painted look.
Whatever you do, don’t get stuck in a box. Life’s too short to keep the same hair style for too long. Never be afraid to try something new. The possibilities are endless! Check out this cool virtual makeover tool from Aveda where you can try on different hair colors from your own computer screen!
